Despite the fact that Android-totting Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 are not yet available in the market, HMD Global (the company behind the new Nokia handsets), has confirmed that the trio will be upgraded to Android O (Android 8) immediately it is available in the market.
The next version of Google’s mobile platform is Android O which was announced at the Google annual conference in May.
The spokesperson from the HMD Global said “the smartphones will get the Android O update once the new release is available from Google for their OEM partners, the same way HMD Global is committed to the monthly Android security updates”.
Android O is not available right away
The Android O update will not be available until third quarter of 2017 (September or October) and the new Nokia smartphones will likely not get the update right away.
The spokesperson said they couldn’t say anything about the arrival date for Android O on their Nokia 6,5 and 3 – but it has taken months for manufacturers to roll out new software in the past.
There is a potential silver lining for Nokia 6, 5 and 3 as they run an almost stock version of Android 7, which will make the switch to the Android 8 faster and easier.
The Nokia 6, Nokia 5 and Nokia 3 will be available in the market soon and whenever they are available, you can get them because you will not have to break the bank before you buy them.
We hope Android O will be available before Christmas so that the Nokia 6, 5 and 5 can be the first phones to get the update. According to the spokesperson of HMD Global, the Nokia 6 will be available in the market by the end of June. So you can grab you own as soon as it is out in the market.
As we await the Android O to arrive, you can watch this space for updates.
