Amazon Alexa

This latest product push from Amazon is its biggest yet. Alexa Amazon’s assistant is omnipresent in all the recently announced Amazon devices. Depending on your location in the world, at least 5 of the new devices were brand new.

The new devices include Amazon Echo 2nd Generation, The Amazon Echo Spot (US), the Amazon Echo Show (UK), Amazon Echo Plus, brand new Amazon Fire TV and the one called Amazon Echo Connect.

Alexa has found its voice in hundreds more times in these new devices and it’s becoming the most recognizable voice technology, pushing its mate like Siri into second place. It is already turning into the most valuable commodity for Amazon.

In March this year, RBC Capital Markets estimated that the might of Alexa by 2020 should deliver $10 billion of revenue for Amazon. That is a huge sum of money and it can only be achieved if Alexa is everywhere. But with latest launch by Amazon, that is getting closer to being the case.

Alexa everywhere you are

The new Amazon Echo Plus may still be looking like an old Echo (we are not sure why it is been created in that old design) but it is central to Amazon ideal smart home. The idea here is Alexa being in control and you don’t need bridges or home hubs to make your home smart.

Just purchase Amazon Echo Plus and plug it, then say; “Alexa, find my device”, and boom, the speaker does the rest for you.

It sounds simple and that is the point: Amazon wants you to turn your home to smart home with ease. For this to be perfect, it may take some time, but it is a great start.

This is how it works: Amazon Echo Plus has a Zigbee smart home hub inside it. This Zigbee is the open protocol that permits smart devices to communicate to each other but they need the bridge to connect the devices to the internet so that they can be controlled.

The bridge they need is the Echo Plus. So in theory, Echo Plus is what you need to get Alexa to turn on and off your devices. The Amazon Echo is clever because it works without the need of apps, but it has a little way to go to really become very clever.

With myriad accessories from different companies, the foundations are there for a smart home – all available to purchase through Amazon, naturally – everything working from one hub, you don’t need to say the name of the product, just say: “Alexa, turn off the lights.”

The update to the new Alexa also now has precision to the voice commands. Before, you have to tell Alexa the name of the place you are like, “Alexa, turn off the dining room lights” but now you don’t need to say where you are because Alexa can figure that out itself.

But this works only if you have an Alexa-infused gadget in every room.

Voice control

Amazon really wants you to have the Echo in each and every room. The newest Amazon Echo comes in 6 different styles to blend in with your home furnishing and also bring it closer to its rivals like the Apple Homepod and Google Home look.

Couple with your ability to have music playing multi-room style, the price point is below $100 making it enticing prospect.

If you want to keep the speakers you already bought, then the Echo Dot will help you summon Alexa. There is also a new product SKUs. Echo Spot is a smart device with video calling device and smart alarm all rolled into one.

Amazon also bolstered its Alexa in car lineup with BMW integration and also announced that the voice assistant will be available for Billy Bass, that annoying talking fish.

Amazon finds its voice

Alexa has started feeling like in the second stage – the new update includes Routines where you can knit together a number of actions and make them happen at once. For example, you can have your morning briefing happen, the light go on and kettle turn on; all grouped in the command, “Good morning Alexa.” It’s as simple as that.

Amazon is trying t fit Alexa voice assistant into everything possible. Though Alexa still need a lot of updates, but it’s already feeling there.
