The battle between phone manufacturers continues as Samsung announced its first phone with a pinhole camera – the Samsung Galaxy A8S. We thought we were done with new phone launch this year when Samsung announced this.
Maybe pinhole camera will take over in 2019, nobody knows. The fact that this is coming at this time of the year means we may see a lot of phones with pinhole camera next year. So wait for it.
The new Samsung Galaxy A8S sports a single-lens 24MP f/2.0 camera on the front, cut into the phone’s screen left corner.
The pinhole is 6.7mm wide and cuts into a 6.5-inch 1080×2340 screen with 19.5:9 aspect ratio.
Not only that, the Samsung Galaxy A8S also sports a 6GB or 8GB of RAM, Snapdragon 710 chipset, and a triple-lens rear camera, made up of a 10MP f/2.4 telephoto one, a 24MP f/1.7 main lens and a 5MP f/2.2 depth sensor.
The handset also has 128GB of storage, a fingerprint scanner, a microSD card slot, 3,400mAh battery which supports fast charging, and Android 8.1.
When it comes to the design, the Samsung Galaxy A8S has small bezel below its screen, little bezel above it and comes in grey, green and shades colors.
Availability of Samsung Galaxy A8S is not known
Pre-orders for Samsung Galaxy A8S start in China on 20th of December, but it is not clear if the phone will be sold outside China.
The Samsung Galaxy A8S cost is also unknown. We suspect that this phone may not get a global launch until after the Honor View 20, which is another pinhole camera phone launches in January. So the Honor View 20 will likely be your first pinhole camera.
It is not confirmed, but the Samsung Galaxy S10 may also sport a pinhole camera and could be announced in late February 2019, so you can wait for it.
