Samsung Galaxy S8 Bixby review

Samsung has surely moved the needle for the productivity of mobile with a bigger screen. Everybody was happy when the news about Samsung Galaxy s8 was out, but it now looks like the most hyped feature of the newly released device won’t work at launch. The company confirmed that the Bixby digital assistant would not respond to voice queries when it is launched with the Galaxy s8 later this month.

In Samsung statement made available to TTN:

“With its contextual and interface awareness, Bixby will turn your phone into a more helpful device by assisting in telling you what you are looking at, completing tasks, remembering what you need to do and learning your routine. The important features of Bixby, including Home, Reminder, and Vision, will be available with the Samsung Galaxy s8 global launch on April 21, but Bixby Voice will be available on the Galaxy S8 later this spring in the US.”

VetureBeat was the site to have first reported the statement.

This is another big blow to Samsung who lost $5billion in profit after the exploding Galaxy Note 7. This is coming after Samsung has hyped the Bixby as one of the most important features of the new Galaxy S8 Smartphone. The Smartphone has already broken pre-order records with over 550,000 pre-orders in Shout Korea alone – outpacing the flagship of Galaxy S7 in the US last year.

The company showed the Bixby button at the side of the device during the unveiling of the Smartphone, but unfortunately, it will be useless when the phone finally get to customer’s hand starting April 21.

Bixby has been positioned by the company to compete with Google Assistant, Amazon’s Alexa and Apple’s Siri. According to Samsung during the unveiling of the phone, the assistant and can translate 52 languages compare to Apple’s Siri 30 languages. Though the assistant looks great on paper, it is difficult to believe because we have not been able to test it fully.

Now that the voice assistant is missing in action, is there anything left that is impressive about the phone? Well, users can still use Bixby for visual search, manage their daily affairs and provide recommendations. The other features of Bixby will be available maybe in the next one month – after all, summer is already knocking on our door.
