Samsung Galaxy S9 could sport advanced facial recognition

Though Samsung’s Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8 Plus and Galaxy Note 8 handsets had facial unlock functionality, it was quickly upstaged by Apple’s Face ID tech on the iPhone X that takes a 3D scan of your face to give you more advanced security.

Now, it looks like Samsung is planning to also update its own facial unlock tech with “Intelligent Scan Biometrics.” Dubbed Intelligent Scan, this technology will use “Face Recognition and Iris Scanner together for even better results in very bright light and low light,” and will provide “better security and accuracy.”

Along with the Note 8 of last year, it is highly likely that the tech will find its way into the Samsung Galaxy S9 that will be unveiled at this year’s MWC 2018 in Barcelona. If it is truly rolled out with Samsung Oreo update, there is a chance that it could also end up on the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus.
