Audi R8 V10 Spyder is beautiful to behold sports car. It is simply marvelous to drive and easy to live with – everything you’d need in a sports car.
Audi car brand has enjoyed a transformation over the last decade or more. The brand has shed its slightly stuffy car maker image that builds estates and solid saloons for a more desirable car.
The Audi R8 comes with a naturally aspirated 533bhp 5.2-litre v10 engine. This excellent piece of engineering shuns hybrid and turbos technology to propel you from the standing start to 62mph in just 3.6 secs and will push to a top speed of 198mph.
Audi employed a classic supercar trick to position the engine right in the middle. This engine positioning resulted in weight distribution with a slight bias towards the rear axle, and if you couple it with Audi R8’s Quattro all-wheel drive technology, it should produce a stunning grip and traction.
While people investing in the V10 supercar might not think about fuel economy, the engine features Audi’s advanced Cylinder-on-demand technology. This feature sees the engine system shut down 5 of the ten cylinders when you are trundling in the traffic to improve fuel consumption, but all the ten cylinders will burst into life immediately you hit the throttle to give you the full force of the glorious engine.
While the old supercars came with heavy manual gearboxes and heavy clutch pedal, it is not the same in Spyder. With Audi R8 V10 Spyder Seven-speed dual-clutch S Tronic gearbox, it is only about pressing the throttle pedal and leaving the rest to the gearbox. If you want to move a bit faster, you can just pull up the right paddle found behind the steering wheel to shift through the gears.
The design in Audi R8 V10 Spyder has been sharpened up compare to the R8 Spyder, which makes it all the better. Though R8 Audi may not be the same in-your-face style as some of its rivals, it looked enhanced by the addition of extraordinary sideblades, which shove air into its engine to make the car’s midriff wider.
Making Audi R8 V10 Spyder go topless
Audi did a stunning job here. The mix of aluminum and carbon makes the Audi R8 V10 Spyder 55% more rigid than the previous model and also 25kb lighter.
The folding roof mechanism is exceptional as it takes only 20 seconds with a single press of a button to show the sky. If you are at the speed of 31mph and you love to drop the roof, it is easy at the single press of a button.
While Audi’s R8 V10 Spyder might not offer the same sense of occasion as slipping behind Ferrari and Lamborghini wheel, its cockpit is still fantastic, with a lot of carbon and leather to deliver high-end feel.
The Audi R8 V10 Spyder uses what is known as Audi Virtual Cockpit. Rather than having the instrument panel up front and MMI (Multimedia Interface) in the central console, the two are combined into a high-resolution display, with three views choice: infotainment, sport and classic.
It has a built-in Google map for easy navigation, and you can easily partner a smartphone with the Spyder – but you have to tick the Audi Smartphone Interface optional extra. This will allow you to share your mobile content via USB and display on the MMI through Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. You also have another optional extra in the Audi Phone Box, which gives you the opportunity to charge your phone by placing it in the storage compartment, as well as creating a wireless connection via the car’s aerials.
Audi R8 V10 Spyder Sound system
If you don’t like the exceptional soundtrack of the Audi R8 V10 engine, then you can go for the Bang & Olufsen Advanced Sound System. This is an optional extra that will cost you an extra £1,750, but it will offer you 16-channel amplifier with 13 speakers dotted round the cockpit in return.
The sound quality is exceptional – whether your roof is up or down, the depth and clarity are absolutely impressive.
Verdict on Audi R8
The AudiR8 V10 Spyder, unlike some supercars, is a true supercar that anyone can enjoy every day. It is quiet and comfy when you need it to be, but just a flick of the switch will transform it into a true crackling and howling supercar.
The £130,000+ Audi R8 V10 Spyder is really a breathtaking supercar.
